Nicholas Vnderveen
Nicholas Vanderveen is a violinist and conductor from New York City, where he actively performs as a chamber musician, soloist, and with various orchestras.
As the Assistant Concertmaster of the New York Youth Symphony Orchestra, he frequently performs across the city, including at Carnegie Hall, where he has collaborated with internationally acclaimed soloists like Augustin Hadelich, Michelle Cann, and Valerie Coleman. As a member of the orchestra, he has also appeared on Good Morning America with Billy Ray Cyrus and FIREROSE, been invited to tour in Europe, and won the 2023 Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance. He has played with the Columbia University Orchestra and Centre Symphony Orchestra as well.
Beyond violin, Nicholas has been conducting since age 12 when he began his studies with Scott Wiley at the Mannes School of Music pre-college. Since then, he has studied with Miguel Harth-Bedoya at the Conducting Institute and has been a conducting fellow at the New York Youth Symphony for four seasons, enabling him to work directly with Music Director Andrew Kim. He has worked to direct new music by emerging composers, recording and debuting them at venues like National Sawdust in Brooklyn.
Nicholas is currently an undergraduate at Columbia University, where he studies violin with Lisa GiHae Kim. He also studied with Stephan Tieszen at Mannes and attended the Special Music School at the Kaufman Music Center.
